Comments Solo female diver 55 YO - stayed at the Hummingbird Resort outside of Soufriere and took water taxis to Anse Chastanet to snorkel and dive. Loved the Hummingbird, the staff, the restaurant. Right on the beach; snorkel from the pier along the cliff - very nice - best I found on St. Lucia. Go to Anse Chastanet (via water is faster, easier and quicker) for Scuba St. Lucia. Nice boats, organized team, lovely staff, good facilities and equipment. Not cheap - situated on the beach with a pricey resort but the beach restaurant is quite nice for a relaxing lunch between dives. I hadn't dived in 3 years so I wanted easy diving to start. I did 2 shore dives - the wall starts just off the beach. Not bad - no current, nice mix of small critters and pretty sponges. Out for 45 minutes, 70' max depth. They assigned me a buddy so it was the dive master, my buddy (also a professional dive master) and me - not bad for getting comfortable underwater again. 2nd dive (afternoon) to Fairy Land was too much work to be fun - very strong current whipped me by all the things I wanted to explore at 2-3 knots - just staying off the coral and rocks became my main objective - not much pleasure there. I think it is the curve of the wall that causes this as my previous drift dives in Cozumel and Puerto Rico were much more leisurely (like diving from a lounge chair). Dive #3 - Shore dive to wall - happy to visit with a flounder the size of a potato chip, banded shrimp, clouds of blue chromis, a baracuda, a porcupine fish, arrow crabs, lobsters and eels. Very fun. Snorkeled alone offshore near the pier (opposite end of Anse Chastanet) to search for turtles (yep - 4 big green turtles) and was delighted to find swaying garden eels, flying greviles and darling baby squids. I recommend Scuba St. Lucia - they seemed genuinely concerned that I have good experience and I did.
